For Halloween in 1983, after seeing Return of the Jedi, I went as Luke Skywalker. I'd wanted to BE Luke Skywalker since I first saw Star Wars in 1977 at the age of five (I still want to be him, by the way). My Mom bought black pants, a black shirt, black shoes, even black gloves (I only used the right one, of course). Then, she made me my very own Jedi robe. When I looked in the mirror, I WAS Luke Skywalker. It was like a dream come true. There was no getting me out of that thing. Most of the costumes I'd had prior to that were those plastic, store bought ones that were fun but didn't make you feel like you really were that character. Most of them even had a picture of what you were supposed to be on the front of them anyway. Not this costume. It was the first home made costume I'd had in a long time. And it was the best costume I ever had. It was the best Halloween I ever had.
